Kansas City Chiefs to visit with Florida State cornerback Jarrian Jones
Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to have another pre-draft visit soon. The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off very soon, and the Chiefs are getting all of their ducks in a row—getting some last-minute visits out of the way very soon. They have several needs to address in this draft, and looking at their pre-draft visits is a good way to get a better feel of what the team is looking for.

In the Chiefs' case, they need offensive tackle, guard depth, defensive tackle depth, edge depth, linebacker depth, wide receiver depth, and you can even throw tight end depth on the list, too. If you notice, most of their needs are depth issues.

Their latest pre-draft visit happens to play the same position as their best player at that position, whom they just traded away. According to Aaron Wilson of KCPR 2, the Chiefs have a pre-draft visit with Florida State cornerback Jarrian Jones. Here is everything you need to know about Jones and his strengths and weaknesses:

STRENGTHS

  • Above average speed to stay in phase with slot fades
  • Efficient turning & accelerating to a top speed
  • Elite closing burst to drive on routes & eliminate passing windows
  • Fluid hips & easy speed turns
  • Plasters extended routes when the QB broke the pocket
  • Crafty & competitive block shedder
  • Has special teams experience on kick/punt coverage

WEAKNESSES

  • Very loose in man coverage
  • Gets frozen by releasing fakes
  • Heavy feet & slow response to cross-face routes
  • Struggles to connect & mirror horizontal breaks
  • Puts himself in compromising situations with erratic hip movements
  • Poor technique & finish rate as a tackler
  • Short arms

Jones is the 179th-ranked prospect on our big board, the 26th-ranked cornerback, and is projected to be a fifth-round pick. The Chiefs have made some great cornerback picks on day three, including L'Jarius Sneed. Jones would be an overlooked guy but could make for a great show in training camp.
