MLB Has Punishment for Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays Brawl
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday night in the game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers, an ugly scene unfolded. In the eighth innings, a benches-clearing incident occurred as emotions had been riding high for a few innings, resulting in several suspensions and fines during the Brewers’ 8-2 victory.

In the sixth inning, Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta intentionally threw at Rays’ outfielder Jose Siri. It was the first of two incidents that Siri was involved in, as he also squared up with Brewers’ reliever Abner Uribe in the eighth inning when the benches cleared.

Abner has been suspended six games for his role, while Siri was hit with a three-game suspension. But, his suspension was later reduced to two games after he reached an agreement with Major League Baseball via an appeal. Siri served his first game on Wednesday, a 7-1 Rays loss.

Along with Siri, Uribe and Peralta are planning to also file an appeal. Until that appeal is heard, the discipline handed down by the league will remain pending. Unlike the players, Brewers manager Pat Murphy isn’t allowed to appeal his suspension under the rules in place. His first absence was also on Wednesday afternoon.

Murphy also received a two-game suspension. He is being suspended because of the actions of his starting pitcher. Also, what was deemed inappropriate conduct towards the umpires played a part in Major League Baseball suspending him for two games.

In the sixth inning, tempers didn’t flare after Peralta hit Siri on a 3-0 pitch. After grounding out in the eighth inning and after Siri crossed paths with Uribe, words were exchanged and punches were thrown.

The bad blood between Siri and the Brewers began in the third inning when he launched a solo home run off of Peralta, his second of the season. A long look was taken by Siri, who was admiring his hit and that didn’t sit well with Milwaukee players.
