49ers GM John Lynch lauds the scouts who spotted Brock Purdy a couple of years ago: 'Deserve so much credit'

Interestingly, that’s the opposite of what the 49ers had in mind when they drafted the quarterback in the last round of the 2022 NFL Draft in the last pick– which landed him the infamous Mr. Irrelevant title. However, two people in particular believed in Purdy’s capabilities and are actually the reason why the 49ers got so lucky with the quarterback. 

John Lynch applauded the men who believed in Brock Purdy’s NFL destiny

In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Niners General Manager John Lynch credited two people responsible for drafting the Iowa product, revealing one of their names as Steve Slowik, former college scout. 

I think two people deserve so much credit for Brock Purdy and one of them now is in our pro department. He goes by the name of Steve Slowik. Steve would always come through these draft meetings, in the fall meetings, and speak so glowingly about Brock and the culture-changer he was, how Iowa State would not be where they are without Brock Purdy. John Lynch said

Steve seems to have an extended connection with the NFL since his brother, Bobby Slowik is the former 49ers passing game coordinator and now offensive coordinator of Houston Texans. The other name as mentioned by Lynch is Brian Griese .

Brian was incredibly impressed once we said 'Hey, get on these zooms and start talking to Brock.' Griese came back extremely convinced. John Lynch added

Based on how far Purdy led the Niners, dominating the entire NFC while leading the league in most of the categories proves that Griese and Slowik were absolutely right in believing in the 24-year-old and drafting him in the Niners.
